- APALSA and CALsa are proud to kick off APALSA week with a firm event! Join us for a conversation with UChicago and APALSA/CALsa alums Hana Stodder, Pauline Nguyen, and Scott Sugino on how they navigated their paths in big law and honed their professional skills as minority attorneys in litigation and corporate practices. They will share with us their career development, personal growth, and advice on having a rewarding Big Law life.

- Please join APALSA, ImmLS, LLSA, and VGS for a screening of the film Blue Bayou (2021). Opening remarks will be given by the Professor and Director of the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic, Nicole Hallett. Pizza and Asian/Latinx snacks will be provided in the Green Lounge starting at 6:00 PM.
- Blue Bayou is the moving and timely story of a uniquely American family fighting for their future. Antonio LeBlanc, a Korean adoptee raised in a small town in the Louisiana bayou, is married to the love of his life Kathy and step-dad to their beloved daughter Jessie. Struggling to make a better life for his family, he must confront the ghosts of his past when he discovers that he could be deported from the only country he has ever called home.

- APALSA Presents: California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin H. Liu on the Portrait Project

- Goodwin H. Liu is an Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court who has served since he was elected in 2011. In addition to serving on the highest court in the State of California, Justice Liu also has experience as a constitutional law professor, a Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, and a litigator at O’Melveny & Myers. In 2017, Justice Liu published a study on Asian American representation in the legal field titled “A Portrait of Asian Americans in the Law.” The Portrait Project is currently in its next phase, which will take a deeper dive into the empirical reasons and potential solutions to the challenges faced by Asian Americans in the legal community. APALSA invites the law school community to hear Justice Liu speak on his rich experiences along the path to the California judiciary as well as the state of diversity in the legal profession. This event will occur in hybrid format and will not be recorded.

- Grace Pai is the Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago, where she leads strategy for issue-based campaigns and power-building work. In 2021, she led a successful campaign to require Asian American history to be taught in all Illinois public schools. Grace has spent nearly a decade organizing in Chicago toward racial, economic, and immigrant justice and has trained hundreds of organizers and community leaders across the country. This event is sponsored by the Dean of Students Office (DOS).
